As a resident of [insert city, state], I am writing to ask for your support of the reauthorization of the C.W. Bill Young Cell Transplantation Program (Program) and the National Cord Blood Inventory. The authority for these programs expires September 30. Since the inception of these programs, they have been reauthorized on a bipartisan basis. The House has passed a reauthorization bill and it is now up to the Senate to ensure that the authority does not expire.

For thousands of people diagnosed every year with one of the 70 life-threatening blood cancers or other blood disorders, a bone marrow or cord blood transplant may be the only hope for a cure. The Program's national bone marrow and cord blood registry, known as the Be The Match Registry, has grown to meet this need. With continued federal support, the registry now includes nearly 12.5 million donors and more than 209,000 cord blood units. This has allowed the National Marrow Donor Program®/Be The Match®, the federal contractor for these programs, to facilitate nearly 68,000 life-saving transplants since 1987. Yet, the need for transplants is increasing every year, especially among older Americans.
