I am writing today to ask you to support increased funding for the C.W. Bill Young Cell Transplantation Program and the National Cord Blood Inventory.  These vital programs help patients in need of a life-saving bone marrow transplant find a donor and receive care.

For patients with blood cancers, like leukemia and lymphoma, and 70 other blood disorders, a bone marrow or cord blood transplant can be a cure. With firm Congressional backing, the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP)/Be The Match has operated the national Be The Match Registry for nearly 30 years, offering patients a second chance at life.  Each year 14,000 people in this country are diagnosed with an illness that requires a bone marrow transplant. Currently we are only meeting about half the need.  Increased funding makes it possible to add more volunteer marrow donors and cord blood units to the registry, which results in more lives being saved.

None of this work would be possible without continued Congressional funding and support. Please consider supporting increased funding for these vital programs. You can help save lives and offer hope to patients and their families across the country.
